A man kills his wife and hangs himself in Cheberen Mogotio SubCounty Featured

The body of Kirwa Kipngetich was found dangling on a mango tree by a neighbour who had gone to tend his farm at around 9 am on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Confirming the incident, Cheberen chief Sammy Kandie told K24 Digital that he got reports from a resident telling him that they had found the body of Kipngetich dangling on a mango tree.

He noted that the deceased had killed his wife the night before run away from an irate crowd and dashed into a nearby bush. He used his belt to hang himself on the mango tree. Kipngetich is alleged to have killed his wife Leolinda Jeruto, who is a JSS teacher at Tian primary school, Cheberen, Mogotio, by stabbing her with a knife.

He is reported to have visited his wife who aresides at the teachers' quarters before he chose to end her life on the fateful Monday night at around 7 pm before fleeing the area. Earlier on Monday at around 7 pm, witnesses said that they heard commotions from the staff's residence in Tian primary. Upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of Jeruto lying a few steps from the door of her one-bedroomed house.

An immediate neighbour of the deceased said that she heard a thud and once she rushed to check she saw Kipngetich coming out from the house with a blood-stained knife before he dashed into the bush. Residents tried to pursue him but could not get hold of him as it was dark. "We suspect that domestic differences could have caused the dreadful ordeal.

The duo had two children and had been having issues that kept them estranged for a while," The chief said. Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had been estranged after domestic differences but the husband could not take it making him bitter.

It is also believed that after their differences, Kipngetich took the two children to his custody leaving his wife alone. The chief called upon couples to resolve their issues amicably to avoid such tragic incidences. Officers from Emining processed the scene and recovered blood stained knife believed to be used in the murder. They moved the man's body to Eldama Ravine morgue where the body of his wife was awaiting postmortem.
